Let’s solve beauty’s packaging problem, together.

We believe that beauty is unique and requires industry-specific solutions. When we share information and work together pre-competitively, we can take responsibility for the waste our industry creates, drive toward circular practices, and do better for our planet. We hope you’ll join us.

Membership types

Pact membership is for any beauty and wellness stakeholder with a role in the beauty packaging process. Our membership types are determined by the stakeholder’s role in beauty packaging waste. If your organization comprises multiple brands or entities, please reach out to hello@pactcollective.org for a complete quote.

  • Best for: Stakeholders that sell beauty/personal care packaging/product and directly increase packaging waste. These stakeholders cannot hold Advocate membership. These members are required to host at least (1) collection program.

Costs: membership dues are based on full-time employees and are billed annually:

    Indie (0-49 FTE): $850
    Established (50-99 FTE): $3,000
    Large (100-249 FTE): $6,000
    Corporate (250-499 FTE): $9,500
    Enterprise (500+ FTE): $12,500

Pact’s collection programs

Exclusively through membership, Pact offers a variety of packaging collection programs to help close the loop on hard-to-recycle beauty packaging with as much transparency as possible. Pact uses the findings from our collection programs to report back to beauty stakeholders and improve our industry’s packaging design process as a result.

Activator members are required to launch at least one collection program as part of their membership commitments.

  • Best for: Retailers and brands with physical storefronts, or brands interested in sponsoring a bin on behalf of a small retailer.

About the program: Pact’s In-Store Collection Program provides a convenient way for retailers to help their customers properly discard their hard-to-recycle packaging while educating them to make informed, sustainable decisions. Members have the option to use a Pact branded bin or collaborate on a co-branded bin.

  • Best for: Members with large office(s) or shared working space.

About the program: Our In-Office Collection Program provides an easy way for brands to empower their employees and visitors to properly recycle their hard-to-recycle packaging. Members have the option to use a Pact branded bin or collaborate on a co-branded bin. All bins can be permanently featured and/or used for events.

  • Best for: Direct-to-consumer brands and businesses, and those with no physical storefront locations.

About the program: Our Mail-Back Collection Program is a great way to offer your US & CAD customers a way to properly discard their hard-to-recycle empties if they don’t have access to a Pact bin. We offer two options:

    1. Customer-supported: customer partially covers program costs.

    2. Brand-sponsored: brands cover all program costs.

  • Best for: Brands, retailers and suppliers looking for a recycling solution for beauty packaging that cannot be sold – empty or full.

About the program: Our Obsolete Inventory Program improves on the typically unsustainable process of product and packaging destruction by taking an extra step to sort out components that can be mechanically recycled (e.g. caps, compacts, cardboard boxes). All remaining packaging that is “contaminated” or non-recyclable will be molecularly recycled or sent to waste-to-energy. Once processed, we will issue a certification of destruction for your records.

  • Best for: Companies interested in sponsoring collection bin(s) on behalf of a small retailer.

About the program: Pact’s In-Store Bin Sponsorship allows brands to support small retailers (less than three locations) by providing an avenue for their customers to properly discard their hard-to-recycle packaging.

What sets our programs apart.

  • For beauty, by beauty

Our collection programs are exclusively for beauty and wellness packaging. Any and all beauty packaging that meets our collection guidelines is accepted, regardless of brand.

  • We are your auditors

We’ve established a transparent auditing system for our best-in-class collection and recycling partners that gives us full visibility into their processes and our material’s end-of-life outcome.

  • Hard-to-recycle only

We only collect packaging that cannot be recycled through traditional systems — AKA hard-to-recycle packaging. We provide clear guidelines on what can and cannot be accepted through our collection programs.

  • Data-driven

We strategically leverage the data on our collected material to serve as knowledge hub, empower our industry to design more sustainable packaging and produce less waste.

The Pact accord

All Pact Collective members commit to our mission, values, and the Pact Accord below.

No one company can tackle beauty’s packaging waste problem alone. To drastically reduce our environmental impact, we as peers and competitors must come together as a collective that adheres to Pact’s values of promoting transparency, sharing best practices, and working pre-competitively to make meaningful improvements to our beauty packaging. Together, we commit to diverting hard-to-recycle beauty packaging from landfill via Pact’s collection programs, seeking the highest and best use for this collected material, and using our findings to educate the larger beauty community on the needed steps toward circularity. By joining Pact, you agree to work together as a collective towards the goal of reducing packaging waste and material use, while increasing recyclability and circularity for our industry as well as the greater good of the planet.

Defining the future of the industry.

Pact exists to unite the beauty industry and drive toward more circular solutions. Together, we can divert our packaging from landfill, design better packaging, and do better by our planet moving forward. Learn more about the beauty packaging problem and what we can do to fix it.
